About Us

Dallas Area Telangana Association (DATA) is a non-profit, charitable organization established by the Telangana community in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area. Our mission is to preserve, promote, and pass on the rich cultural heritage, festivals, food, and values of Telangana to the next generation—especially our children born and raised in the U.S., who may never get to experience the joys of our hometown life.

At DATA, we are more than an association—we are a family united by tradition. We aim to give our children the colors, sounds, flavors, and values of Telangana, right here in Dallas.

Why DATA?

Many of us left Telangana for education, opportunity, or family, but no matter where life has taken us—our roots still run deep. Our kids are growing up in a different world, and without conscious effort, they may miss out on the culture that shaped us.

That’s why DATA was formed—not just to celebrate culture once a year, but to recreate the village warmth, street festivals, and seasonal rhythms we all grew up with. Our goal is to make sure our children feel proud of where they come from, even if they’ve never lived there.

Festivals and Traditions We Celebrate and Preserve

Bathukamma

A celebration of women, flowers, and nature. Our grand Bathukamma gathering brings women and girls together in colorful attire to sing, dance, and build floral towers, just like in the towns and villages of Telangana.

Holi

With organic colors, dhol beats, and joyful dancing, our Holi events help kids experience the fun and unity of spring celebrations.

Dussehra

Featuring Ravana Dahan, kids’ dramas, and traditional food, we bring this festival to life with symbolic storytelling and festive spirit.

Vanabhojanalu

Community picnic-style gatherings with games, food, and laughter in the spirit of sharing meals under nature’s canopy—a nostalgic reminder of school trips and village life.

For Our Children, Born and Raised in the U.S.

Our children may never walk the dusty roads of our villages, or sit on a veranda watching a village jatara parade pass by. They may not know the smell of new clothes on Sankranti morning or the thrill of bursting crackers on Deepavali night.

But with DATA, we can bring those moments to them:

  • Cultural education through festivals
  • Traditional food tasting and cooking demos
  • Storytelling sessions in Telugu and English
  • Workshops on folk arts, dance, and music
  • Language & script preservation activities

We want them to know that being Telangana is something to celebrate.

Founder’s Message

We built Dallas Area Telangana Association (DATA) for our children. So they could feel connected to our identity—not just through stories, but through experience. Our festivals like Bathukamma and Holi are more than rituals—they are expressions of love, unity, and gratitude.

Let’s make sure our kids don’t just know these names—but understand them, live them, and carry them forward with pride.

Be Part of Our Telangana Family

  • Celebrate our culture
  • Educate our youth
  • Support our community
  • Build lasting friendships

Let’s keep Telangana alive—right here in Dallas.
